The University of South Australia Student Association (USASA) is a non-profit student-run organisation that has supported UniSA’s student body for nearly 30 years.
By engaging with USASA’s social clubs, wellbeing events, and student spaces, UniSA students are given opportunities to make the most out of their university experience and build strong connections that transcend their university life.
USASA President Isaac Solomon discusses the importance of such an organisation to students in a 2023 USASA video.
“We give you the tools and services needed to thrive at university,” Isaac says.
“We support over 80 social clubs, we run fun events and we continuously improve our student services and spaces on campus.
“The best thing about USASA is as a UniSA student all of our services are free and available to you.”
The video goes on to discuss and promote more of USASA’s objectives: shining light on the student voice, providing academic and financial advocacy services, encouraging student interaction in driving campus culture, and nurturing a sense of belonging in learning communities.
With semester one well and truly here, USASA has organised a range of events to help jumpstart, or welcome you back to, university life.
If you’d like to celebrate the beginning of the new university year, USASA is hosting a club social at Holey Moley on March 2.
It’s a great opportunity to get to know this year’s club executives and, for those with a competitive edge, try your hand at a friendly game of mini golf.
The Campus Fair is returning this year on March 8, 9, 15 and 16, inviting students to immerse themselves in campus life and find out more about what they can do to enhance their university experience.
Hosted across all four campuses, the fun-filled event offers live music and performances, interactive games and activities, and opportunities to connect with different cultural, social, special interest and sport clubs.
Another great way to socialise and get together with your peers is to attend the USASA Outer Space Crawl on April 6.
A prepaid ticket grants you entry to the night’s Launch Party, an out-of-space-themed t-shirt, free entry to all seven venues, drink and food specials, and a guaranteed night of fun.
You can also get involved and offer your voice on a deeper level by joining USASA’s 2023 Student Board, becoming a Student Voice Delegate, or participating in the Academic Advocacy Internship.
Regional students still have the opportunity to join USASA as the Mount Gambier Student Representative.
The role grants you the power to influence and have a say in the university’s decision making, as well as providing you with a central voice on behalf of your fellow students.
From decision-making boards to specific focus groups, USASA’s Student Voice opportunities also allow you to use your voice and make a real difference to the university.
USASA’s 14-week Academic Advocacy Internship program encourages students to grow personally and professionally by allowing them to attend and lead advocacy appointments.
During these appointments, interns can gain work environment experience and develop their understanding on advocacy roles, policy implementation, and professional communication and conduct.
