South Australia is at the top of its game when it comes to boutique booze production and several events in June are highlighting our best efforts.

According to Tourism Sentiment Index data, Adelaide’s breweries and pubs are the fifth best in the world, and NOLA Bar and The Stag are hosting a beer festival to showcase the scene.

The Adelaide gin extravaganza is returning to the city with 200 gin labels to flaunt — the state’s gin distilling industry is 10 times bigger than it was a decade ago.

Adelaide Wine Festival is also making an appearance at the Adelaide Central Market this month to showcase South Australia’s thriving wine industry.

According to the Department of Primary Industries and Regions, the state accounts for almost 80 per cent of Australia’s premium wine — produced from some of the oldest vines in the world.

This month, there is also a selection of sustainable markets where you can score pre-loved items.

According to the Australian Fashion Council (AFC), Australians purchase 56 garments every year on average, amounting to 14.8 kilograms per person — most of which is fast fashion and ends up in landfill.

Sustainable Fashion Market

The Sustainable Fashion Market (SFM) is popping up at the Burnside Ballroom on June 15.

In collaboration with the City of Burnside, SFM is part of the Burnside Council’s Environment and Sustainability EXPO.

Australians purchase the most clothes per person internationally, surpassing the US.

Textile waste is fast becoming the country’s biggest problem and the Australian Fashion Council’s report found landfills take on 227,000 of unwanted and unwearable clothes yearly.

However, the EXPO’s jam-packed program shows how easy it can be to live sustainability — slow fashion, for example, can look like second-hand shopping.

The SFM is bringing over 30 preloved and vintage clothes stalls to the Burnside Ballroom.

When: Saturday, June 15, 10am until 2pm

Where: Burnside Ballroom, in City of Burnside Civic Centre, 401 B26 Greenhill Road, Tusmore 5065

Together, Sustainable Clothing Co. and the Adelaide Sustainability Centre are hosting a sustainable community clothing swap on June 22 at The Joinery.

Also, you can participate in repair and upcycling workshops across two sessions on the day.

Tickets for the workshop can be purchased alongside clothes swap tickets here.
