On The Record’s August “What’s On” features a spread of arts and exhibitions including SALA Festival, flora&faunavisions’ EDEN and the MOD.’s BROKEN.
There are also local gigs to get around with live entertainment offerings scattered throughout the city, like Adelaide Arcade’s “Unplugged” sessions.
This month, two of Adelaide’s staple markets return: Gilles at the Grounds and XChange. The Adelaide Fashion Collective is also hosting a styling workshop.

Arts
EDEN
Berlin-based studio flora&faunavisions showcases nature’s vibrancy through EDEN — a digital garden made up of 150 square metres of LED screens. The interactive experience is an Adelaide-exclusive event as part of Illuminate Adelaide’s July season. EDEN’s showing at Adelaide’s Centre of Immersive Light and Art (ILA) has been extended to August 31.

BROKEN
The MOD.’s current exhibition, BROKEN, acknowledges society’s “brokenness”. It explores how things could be different through imagined new ways of being.

Chicago
Broadway’s longest-running musical, Chicago, is showing at the Festival Theatre this month. Set in the roaring twenties and based on real events, Chicago is a satire that follows “wannabe jazz age stars” who get their big break for committing murders that make headlines across Chicago city.

Concerts & Music
Rally to save the Cranker
A development plan continues to threaten the beloved live music venue the Crown & Anchor. This month, an organised rally will take place in Victoria Square in a bid to save the iconic cultural landmark. The Cranker and its sister venues – Chateau Apollo, Midnight Spaghetti and Roxie’s – will be open afterwards with live music across two stages. Band LOLA and musician Dave Gleeson will perform, with more names to be announced. `

Adelaide Arcade Unplugged
This month, local acts will play stripped-down and unplugged music every Friday at lunchtime in the Adelaide Arcade. Connect with the Adelaide Arcade on Instagram to view weekly programs.

SALA Festival
Established in 1988, the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival is an annual festival that celebrates living SA visual artists regardless of their age and experience. View the full program here.

Winter Weekends
Winter Weekends — an initiative to get people out and about in the CBD during winter — is touring through Hutt Street and North Adelaide with live entertainment offerings and cosy firepits every Friday and Saturday. Entertainment and venue announcements are updated on the website.

Markets
Gilles at the Grounds
The dog friendly market, Gilles at the Grounds, returns for its last market before it pauses for the Royal Adelaide Show until September. It promises an exceptional line-up of traders. Connect with them on Instagram for more information.

XChange Market
XChange Market returns with 30 stallholders and over 100 racks of pre-loved and vintage clothing from Aeterna Studio, Aus Rack Vintage and more. Further information on stallholders will be shared on their Instagram page closer to August 18. Coffee by Golden Years Co., sandos by Dante’s Deli and tattoos by Poko Ono will be on hand. Talks
Lauren Fuge’s Book Launch
Award-winning science writer Lauren Fuge’s novel Voyagers: Our Journey Into the Anthropocene is described as an adventurous personal narrative. The novel investigates what drives humanity’s need to explore and discover and she is launching it in person at Adelaide’s Dymocks in Regent Theatre. Register for the free author event here.

Workshops
Adelaide Fashion Collective styling workshop
The Adelaide Fashion Collective is hosting a free styling workshop, featuring Adelaide-based stylist India Worthington at the University of Adelaide. The hour-long workshop will cover colour theory, styling for different body types, accessorising and general styling tips.
