What’s on in Adelaide: November edition

South Australia is turning it up this November, just in time for the end of the semester.

This month’s guide to what’s on features an epic line-up of festivals, markets and music.

There is the genre-defying music festival AdeLOUD and the vibrant Feast Festival. Adelaide Wine Festival will also return, spotlighting SA’s high calibre of vineyards.

A selection of markets will kick off the holiday season like Tanunda’s Makers & Beyond, Gilles at the Grounds and Australia’s touring market, Fashion Thrift Society.

A huge mix of artists — local, national and international — will also touch down in Adelaide this month including Aussie international sensation Troye Sivan, homegrown band COLTER, UK drum and bass DJ and producer SOTA, and Sydney band The Rions.

From intimate performances to wild nights out, November is packed with unmissable events.

Festivals

Feast Festival

The iconic celebration of Adelaide’s LGBTQIA+ community Feast Festival returns with a packed program that promises cabaret, comedy, drag, literature, music, workshops and more.

OTR has listed some of Feast’s must-see events below:

Dancetopia

Dancetopia, led by dance artist and therapeutic practitioner Ben-Hur Winter, is an inclusive workshop that draws from Dance Movement Therapy’s (DMT) healing work and is described as a space where creativity is fostered.

Roller Derby Pride Cup

In its third year running, the Roller Derby Pride Cup will bring together Adelaide’s derby and LGBTQIA+ communities to celebrate the best of both with an action packed tournament.

There will also be a bake sale, a fully stocked bar, market stalls, raffle prizes and more.

Bloomin’ Fabulous

Set to be held in the Bicentennial Conservatory in the Botanic Gardens, runway show Bloomin’ Fabulous will be a floral extravaganza featuring botanic–inspired costumes designed by Adelaide-based makers.

After the runway show has concluded, there will be opportunites to explore the exhibition in full and mingle with makers and their models.

Creative Juices

Described as a hands-on experience, where you are not simply watching but creating, Creative Juices is an intersection of art and comedy.

Expect a whole lot of laughter, and a splash of UV paint, in this immersive theatrical experience led by award-winning performer Timothy Christopher Ryan.

AdeLOUD

There is a new music festival in town: AdeLOUD.

The line-up is peppered with big names including DJ Nooriyah and Genesis Owusu, who is set to headline, as well as local names like TONIX.

Befitting AdeLOUD’s genre-diverse line-up, the festival will have two stages: one will be outdoors and the other will be an indoor boiler-room-style set up.

Adelaide Wine Festival

Adelaide Wine Festival will return this month with its “Summer Show”, where an assortment of wines will be available for sampling to highlight the state’s exceptional selection. Tastings will be accompanied by entertainment, food, live music and more.

Markets

Gilles at the Grounds

Over the next couple months, the state’s beloved Gilles market will roll out fortnightly for your Christmas shopping needs, championing local businesses.

Gilles at the Grounds will return on November 17 from 9am until 3pm, as per usual, and will be open from 3pm until 9pm on November 30 for their first night market.

Makers & Beyond

The fast-approaching holiday season will also see the Tanunda Town Square precinct transform into a marketspace on November 22. Work through your gift list with boutiques, shops, 20 participating local traders and over 30 stalls to explore.

Fashion Thrift Society

Australia’s biggest curated pre-loved market, Fashion Thrift Society — who describes themselves as “your dream second-hand shopping paradise” — will touch back down in Adelaide this November.

The travelling market will bring over 200 second-hand and vintage vendors to Adelaide’s south. The full line-up of what will be on offer will be released at a closer date, likely through their Instagram.

Music

Troye Sivan

After selling out venues across Europe, Troye Sivan is back on home soil for his Something To Give Each Other tour. In celebration of his 2023 album — his first to be released in five years — he will bring the highly anticipated show to Adelaide on November 19. The chart-topping synth-pop album features hit singles “Got Me Started”, “One of Your Girls” and “Rush”.

COLTER

Adelaide-grown band COLTER, whose sound has been described by Triple J as brit pop and indie, will celebrate the launch of their newest single “Pretty Eyes, Live & Loud” at the Grace Emily Hotel, supported by SA bands The Dainty Morsels and Stellar.

SOTA

After playing Touch Bass festival earlier this year, UK drum and bass DJ and producer State Of The Art — better known as SOTA — is bringing his own show down under on November 22. SOTA knows how to work a stage with huge performances at Boomtown, Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds Festival, and Tomorrowland already under his belt.

The Rions

Four-piece indie rock band The Rions set off on a massive 21-date Australia tour in October and will touch down in Adelaide on November 30 to celebrate their newest EP Happiness In A Place It Shouldn’t Be. Australian Music Radio Airplay Project describes this new release as their transition from “ones-to-watch to self-assured”. The Rions will be supported by local indie rock band Stormy-Lou for the Adelaide leg of their tour.
