There is nothing quite like pride, the art of celebrating uniqueness, individuality and inclusion. Pride has long been associated with the bright colours of the rainbow and the proud queer communities, and what better time to celebrate than this year as we move into the 50th anniversary of South Australia decriminalising homosexuality.

From June 1and all the way through to June 30, Adelaide is holding a variety of queer-spired and LGBTQIA+ inclusive events that all can attend.

Good ol’ reliable, Mary’s Poppin

Beginning with the very well-known and iconic establishment of Mary’s Poppin, this self-proclaimed ultimate LGBTQIA+ party destination sits just off Adelaide’s Rundle Street. With every Saturday being a Satur-slay, Mary’s Poppin is booked to the brim this month with events on Fridays and Saturdays. Watch out for this weekend as Mary’s hosts a TGI-Friday The 13th themed night, celebrating gay horror icons before then appreciating OG Gay RnB and Hip Hop on Saturday.

It’s state-wide with the South Australian Pride Gala

Welcome to the second annual South Australian Pride Gala, held on June 27th. The main focus for this year’s pride gala is the 50th anniversary of the state’s decriminalisation of homosexual acts. Honouring the past, present and future, the pride gala recognises the individuals and groups who have made and continue to make a difference for the queer community. A two-course meal is served alongside a complimentary drink on arrival as guests mingle with change-makers, allies and proud community members.

It’s Ancient World, and they say let’s party

Ancient World is holding their fourth annual Queer Club, featuring three queer bands, three queer DJs and a few extra special queer guests. An inclusive celebration and safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies, this event is held on June 14 at 7.30pm. Performers include Lemmings, the Genevieves, Pelvis, Samuel Graves, heysorryimlate and L.E.C.N.A. Tickets are available now on humanitix. Find Ancient World on 116a Hindley Street for a night of expression and celebration. Said straight from the mouth of Queer Club organisers, celebrate Pride Month 2025 and be gay with us!

Adelaide can do Cabaret too!

The timing couldn’t be more perfect as the Adelaide Cabaret Festival comes to town. It would be hard to condense the events held during the two weeks of this festival which features a line-up of queer icons, Australian treasures and more. From performances and workshops to live music and comedy, the Adelaide Cabaret Festival is unapologetically iconic. Tickets sell out fast so visit the Adelaide Cabaret Festival site for more.

Slow it down with The Pink Ink Slingers Club

Last, but certainly not least, is the Pink Ink Slingers Club, a free, in-person inclusive writing group. A monthly event held for the LGBTQIA+ community, June 15 sees another meet up from 11am to 5pm. It’s a great opportunity for queer writers and artists to collaborate in a safe and inclusive space, whether sitting in silence or working together on a story, a play, poetry and more. Find this writing group at the Three of Cups Teahouse in the Myer Centre, Rundle Mall.

With such a special anniversary occurring on this year’s Pride Month, it would be an opportunity missed to not celebrate among friends, allies and people alike at a few of the events Adelaide has to offer. So go out, be proud and celebrate.
