Looking for a memorable show to share with family and friends at the 2026 Adelaide Fringe, but not sure where to begin?

Cuttlefish: Colour & Camouflage by Immersive Worlds delivers a visually striking dive beneath the sea — without getting wet.

This 30-minute experience takes place at Olympic House inside The Dome, where audiences are surrounded by a 360-degree documentary projection.

The film features what it calls the “spectacular chameleon of the sea” — the giant Australian cuttlefish.

As the lights dim, guests sink into beanbags and gaze up at the curved ceiling, illuminated by an aurora australis and shooting stars.

The journey shifts to a narrated satellite sweep of Australia via Google Earth, zooming in on the reef near Whyalla.

The once quiet Dome teems with marine life: humpback whales glide overhead, sea lions spiral playfully toward the underwater camera, and snapper drift past in vivid detail.

The reef hosts the world’s only known mass-spawning aggregation of the cuttlefish, with tens of thousands gathering every winter.

Immersive Worlds guides audiences through the short yet extraordinary one-to-two-year lifecycle of the cuttlefish, showcasing its intelligence, mastery of camouflage, and relentless survival instincts.

The climax features dramatic footage of rival males battling for dominance  an underwater soap opera bursting with colour, movement, and tension.

One of 14 documentaries presented by Immersive Worlds at The Dome this festival season, Cuttlefish: Colour & Camouflage is both educational and visually captivating.

Whether you’re a marine enthusiast or simply seeking something unique in Adelaide’s CBD, this immersive experience is suitable for all ages.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Cuttlefish: Colour & Camouflage will hold its final 2026 Adelaide Fringe session at The Dome inside Olympic House on Sunday, March 22.

The last screening at Middleback Arts Centre is scheduled for Monday, April 6. Tickets for both venues are available here.
