Established in 2010, On The Record aims to deliver a combination of traditional news reporting with engaging print and multimedia content to UniSA students and the wider South Australian community.
On The Record is an online publication wholly run by the University of South Australia’s journalism students, focusing on topics and issues that appeal to and impact students and the wider community.
Each year, On The Record’s editorial team work to grow the publication using their fresh perspectives and academic specialisations.
Publication in On The Record furthers the professional development of our student journalists and allows for unique student voices to be heard to inform and interest readers.
In SP5 2025, weekly meetings will occur in B2-08 at the Magill Campus on Wednesdays between 3 and 4pm.
The 2025 Editorial Team
Robert Hicks – Editor
Robert is a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours) student. Oft described as ‘the political guy’, he has a passion for politics irrespective of place and a bigger passion for making it approachable. When not mired in that deluge, you’d likely find him listening to indie, metal or punk music — or reading a history book.
Leia Vlahos – Arts and Culture Editor
Leia is in her fourth and penultimate year of Bachelor of Laws (Honours) paired with a Bachelor of Journalism and Professional Writing. She aims to provide a voice for local and upcoming creatives in South Australia. Outside of the newsroom, Leia can likely be found harping on about various pop culture moments to whoever is kind to listen.
Jasmyn Evans – Chief Sub-Editor
Jasmyn is in her final year of a Bachelor of Journalism and Professional Writing with a sub major in Creative Writing and Literature. She is passionate about helping writers develop their stories and has a keen interest in the concerns of today’s youth. She will often be found cosying up with a good book or baking a tray of sweet treats.
Amelia Hegarty – Social Media Editor
Amelia is in her second year of a Bachelor of Journalism and Professional Writing with a sub major in Italian. With a keen interest in social and gender issues, she strives to report on stories that resonate with and inform audiences. She loves to challenge social norms and hopes to stimulate further discussions on all things taboo.
Mia Handley – Political Editor
Mia is in her second year of a Bachelor of Journalism and Professional Writing. With a keen taste in public affairs and sparking conversation, she strives to provide a balanced political coverage that resonates with a diverse audience. When not writing, Mia is likely devising monstrous edits of her friends in Adobe Photoshop.
